Rustic Weaving with Beads and Fibers

I did this a while ago, it was relaxing and fun. I wish I had taken pictures along the way, of how this Native American looking piece was made. This book has great instructions. I'll describe some below.
You plan out your design on paper, and tape to a board. First placing strung beads on the paper and board by pinning them down like a loom, at top and bottom. Then pin more strings going up and down.   Using large crochet thread and big tapestry needle, you  just have fun weaving and to get this rustic look you don't have to be perfect!
I have tatting to come, but thought you might see other projects I've done.

  2. Yes, that's really interesting! I wonder if the technique could be combined with tatting?? Tat the top and weave the bottom section perhaps?

  4. I have another love of those arts and we have made several pieces, and I do where them from time to time, to rodeos or country music events out side stuff, and hiking in summer time recreation. I do love the Navajo (had to double check spelling too) and the mystical Anasazi people that have some very interesting weaving/knitting techniques, my husband was living in Arizona when we met and have visited there dwellings many times. We have small amount of Native blood running through our veins :) Even if you don't, the style seems to call out at times. I even see hint of this art in natives of all countries peeking through, you think?

    1. Yes I do think so, I love the Navajo jewellery and the turquoise beads they use.
Thank you for correcting my spelling. I wish we can fly over and visit you at a country music event. Unfortunately there's this big pond between us.

  9. Dear Carollyn, I love the native american jewels. I have turquoise earrings and necklace from the Hopi.I bought it somewher near the grand canyon. The turquoise really lightens up your face! And it combines very well with red and black beads and silver. I never go to rodeos, so I wear them when we go out for dinner!

  11. Love this necklace. Would really like to see more of those pieces you make. It looks you make them up while you're working on them. I really like that.
Makes it something different from tatting.
