Thread Winders

A thread winder is mostly flat and sometimes a stick.  Keeping the last bits of thread when when ball or spool is too big, winding the thread around them is like a little home while the thread wait for it's master to use it.

They can be made of cardboard, bone, shell or anything.   The top left and bottom are remakes of a time pasts, that tailors and seamstresses used and the black and white one in middle left is a modern day one, both kinds shown here have special boxes made for them, many cards fit for lots of thread selections.
If traveling I use one or two in a little bag with shuttles, and the project, and scissors and keep picture of pattern on my phone.  I am ready to tat for several days.  And no bulky balls of thread, it all fits in my little purse.
Someone suggested to place name and address in your bag incase lost.

I did start the last round of Renulek's Doily I am happy that it ends with this grand finale of pretty rosettes.   I have been outside enjoying spring time chores so tatting is going slow.

We have local Dogwood festival this time of year when this trees bloom. We have two colors of dogwood trees.

    1. Yes I meant to say that it is size 80 and measures 13 inches or 33 centimeters. When completely finished, I have passed half way now.

  8. Wow, I can't stop admiring your doily :-)
Okay, I got confused - I thought the thread winders were used to wind thread on to the shuttle !!! Nice - I see their practicality while traveling. I simply use the cardstock separators in my tea bag box, or even some free bookmarks that I don't like. But now I like the lovely shapes you have displayed here :-D

I am going to cut off my last rounds of tatting. Hate it - it has overshadowed round 9. Had completed half the round but am now going to snip it all off. Better now than have something unpleasant continuously in front of my eyes for all time .... 3 or 4 days' (sessions) work down the drain ...

Lovely flowers & the Dogwood trees look resplendent :-)

  9. Thank You, I thought that you new that but it was a subject worth going over. The shuttle winders are another subject and here is a blog with vidios and discusses one kind of winter from tallies, http://frivologic.blogspot.com/search/label/EN

  11. I have a good nose and they have a very light fragrance to me. Their petals are tough unlike normal flowers. The tree has a lovely Easter story to go with it, I am a follower of Christ but, I don't think that type of tree originates from the area. Let me know if you have not heard of the story I will tell it to you :)
