Ben Fikkert's "Corona" is Completed!

I did finish Monday, but didn't post till now.  Did not have a cleared off table top so got these pictures instead :)

Shows up nice on this vinyl, not thrilled about camera flash

This is light purple fabric on bed.  I really enjoyed making this and had to keep 9 shuttles full to make all motifs through out. I lightly ironed this and so it did not get stretched out so it measured in at 21 inches  or 54cm mostly size 80 thread.

Had to keep you all posted on these little sweeties.  This was a wonderful accident with camera the bird was in shade next to house and puffed up a bit to put cool air in feathers, love the silhouette !

Hard to find on dead branches in the tree in front of house.  More are arriving and fighting each other right in front of out faces (makes you take a breath they are so fast) while sitting in the rocking chairs. they are entertaining, and now come to window to look in on us as if to ask us to come close when we do they hover and turn slowly so we can see all of them.

I have not been making shuttles yet this summer, last year they came in the shed to watch me see what I am up to.

It is very hot out and I think that is why the little wing is out.  These are the girl birds I do believe.  The boys have a black head and are harder to photo, they are so fast an a bit more shy this year.   Just put new sugar water out see the drip?

  1. Dum dee dum da dum dum dummmmmmm ....
Another drum roll for another gorgeous Corona completed :-)
The speed at which you girls belt out these 'large' doilies (Corona, JS Monster doily, et al), I'll soon have to take up drumming full time !

The birds look more like sun birds. Love to watch the sun birds flitting about.

    1. Thank You :) They call the birds hummingbirds here, but I know there are many different varieties of them all over the world.

  2. Wow your mat is beautiful and gorgeous stunning piece of tatting.
I love your birds oh how I wish we had them over here in the UK, my female blackbird is very territorial and was making herself known yesterday at another female.
It's not that warm at the moment, July started very hot but now it's been quite cold almost like winter, even the night time temperature went down to one degree, that's more a winters night than summer.
Today it look like rain at least here in Somerset we have not had the qualities of rain that Scotland have had.
    Stay cool in the heat

    1. Oh that must be why you don't have these birds they go away in winter only like warm temperatures. We have some very large crows or Ravens I think and they pester the squirrel sometimes and they do bring shiny things to people that befriend them I have herd. I have herd of that rain in Scotland sounds bad.

  3. So 21 inches is a good size and in the 80 thread it must be light such a prize. Congratulations on finishing such a lovely piece. Thanks for the treat of the birds, nice silhouette.

And your silhouette hummingbird photo is great - I'm cooling some fresh sugar water now. I think I was scolded for having an empty feeder!
