Tatting Lace and History Fair in Knoxville Tennessee

This was fun but after the first few rows I had to change the pattern.

I tried this from my new book but found making rings and split rings were easier than the method she explained for I feel when she wrote this book she didn't do split rings, this pattern was all chains.

This bowl was made at a wonderful little history fair it was a Raku Ceramic Booth pictured below
the cups or bowls were made and we painted the glaze and they fired them while you walk around and see the other booths pictured below
Part of a little parade :)

This man demonstrated making tin cup and sold some too.

These women dressed the part of women's suffrage movement another big part of American History.

Civil War

Old World War II jeep

This time I did not do a tatting demonstration. I  helped work this booth where we had computers set up and helped people log onto and look at there family history and genealogy for free. We have places set op all over the world to let people log on and find there family for free.
I made this poster :)

Well we did have fun with the solar eclipse, and this is what my cell phone took, but it is not how it really looked with the glasses, the sliver of moon is what was in front of the sun at this time, but the camera did not record it correctly. At my house we got the total eclipse and the most interesting thing besides the darkness, was the crickets and night bugs started to make nose like at night.

  2. Great post, quite different for me as we would not have the civil war bits over here. I couldn't get the video to work, maybe my pc.
Thanks for your comment on the pincushion, I am stuck at the moment trying to think what to put in the other sections.

  4. Lovely piece of tatting, looks a hard pattern perhaps as it grows it might get boring?
Interesting Americans do have some history but recently all we hear over here is you are pulling down statues and trying to get rid of history. History is history we have plenty bad and good but we are not trying to get rid of it. So it was interesting to read you had a fair and showed your history where you are. Perhaps those who want to get rid of your history should think about it as its what shapes us all.
I love your picture of your solar eclipse, our last one we had cloud so we did not see much, it's a strange time the birds go to bed and the night creatures come out to play, our next solar eclipse they say In the UK will be 2090 I won't be here then, just pushing up the daisies.
It's a bank holiday here so enjoy your weekend

    1. You are very right, we can't change what happened, I think it is very sad and I do feel the news over does or exaggerates what is happening in one small area. I watch the BBC News and it is very interesting what is given to them to show the world a lot of misconceptions are born. It is like they are causing trouble. I have to agree with the president on this one I feel are news is causing havoc and is trying to destroy our country.

  5. Looks like a very interesting fair. If there's an easier way of tatting a pattern, I'm all for it. Yes, the sun and the moon are hard to photograph. Years ago, the full moon looked absolutely enormous behind a cactus in our garden, but when the photo came out, the moon was just a dot. Still, your photo will remind you of the eclipse.

    1. I know it must be a lens thing and my husband did get much better pictures when he took the lens glasses and held them up to the phone camera and it worked much better. I just have not had the time to post that picture, he went back to work and forgot to ask him to send it to me.

  6. Such an enjoyable post and pics ! Lovely tatting, too. Is it from Dora Young's book ?
I totally agree with Margaret about history being history and should be told. Media does have a tremendous amount of bias & vested commercial/ideological interest and morbid stories capture their interest & air time much more than positive ones.

  7. Yes, this is so true, they showed a small group of people that don't understand that, then made it look like every one is like that. But we should always keep this in mind when peeking in on any country 😄
