Something ElseTo Do With Those Motifs

Playing with son's markers, and ran out of thread with this tatted piece, so it goes in my art book.

Another pattern from public domain records, had real beauty to it. Had to make it twice they had center rings too big and it's really 3ds sep. by 3p instead of 4ds makes a big difference!

I will be adding this one to a crazy quilt block.
since it is a public domain and I changed the center ring and made a suggestion for picots on the flower part here the gold medallion revised directions!

  1. Wow. I love that art book. It's like an illuminated book with the tatting in there. Very cool idea really to merge the two together.

  2. Thanks, I don't know what to title it, because I put poetry in it, and draw and paint and I used it once to display some tatting for a picture. And one of the bloggers makes cards and put tatting on it. I herd someone call a piece of fabric (with items sewn on it) a spirit cloth, maybe I will call it "Spirit Book" !

    1. well there are two ways, one is in the Helping Hands News Letter volume 17 Issue 3 Fall 2009, They let you back order them. And then since I not sure how to add a link try to Google " Public Domain Tatting" A bunch of old stuff shows up. and then search. this is for the gold one.

  4. It will be a special book indeed. Lovely motif. It does often take more than one go to a motif quite right.

  7. Thank you, the title for the square, was called plain square motif, some how I think that's not fitting, even though it was simple to make!

  8. Love your pieces, Carollyn ! And there are so many things to ogle at - your artwork, your tatting, your cross stitch, your crazy quilting .... wow !
The 3-colour 'magic square' variation/derivation looks good as a bookmark too !
If I am not mistaken, you have tatted it in 2 rounds ? Once with pink & green for center, then another round with pink & bronze/brown ?
I really should take the time to go through all your posts - a treasure trove of ideas, inspiration & patterns :-)
