Cluny Lace Practice!

Oh look what I found unfinished! Soap in a pretty wash rag pattern!

I use pearl thread that is size 10 DMC, a bit hard on hands for me,but almost done.

I don't normal use this size thread, but to make a wash rag it is better size! It warmed up today :) 50 degrees F.

If you really want to practice cluny tatting this is the pattern for you!  :) found here I know most of you have seen my you tube, but if interested here is a link movie direction here
And forgive at time I did not know how to enunciate it.

  5. Phew, that's a lot of clunies or tallies, good job!! Apparently tally is theoretically the correct name but somehow cluny has become attached to it instead, according to a discussion on In Tatters. I also think it's too pretty for a wash cloth!

    1. Good cause I don't like the sound of that, I also hear "Points of the Holy Ghost" too. Some thing to do about the monks that created them.

  8. I love the lacy look of the washcloth, and the color is so pretty. I would never use something that pretty to actually wash with. It just needs to sit somewhere and look pretty. :)

  11. Wow! I do agree that it is way too beautiful for a wash cloth, but I also like the practicality & useability of tatting .... I can now make small doilies & use them, instead of wondering what to do with all the pieces :-)

I have a question about your tallies/clunies. They are long & narrow. Sometimes I come across more spindle-shaped ones (short n broad) . Does it have anything to do with Your technique, or is it just the number of weaves ?
I hope to learn this in the next few months .

    1. Well no, after doing a lot of them, I see where if tension has everything to do with it. pulling tighter at end and beginning really helps for the leaf shape and being loose in middle is nice, but keeping the edges graduating take thought, and a lighter flat shuttle shuttle if very helpful. I should make a post about this, Now that you ask I do like to add more stitches than most direction ask for, cause it is fun to weave and I really like them for the dragon fly wings too, I think tatting is like a calligraphy it shows personality. I have tried the old way and it is harder on hand to hold. And have worked it on clipboard (come out very nice too and in some ways better) but wanted to work it in my own hands.
