Josephine's Christmas Tree

I have been working on this pattern and still will create more of different sizes of trees, this is done is size 40 thread and I liked the little bird so much I changed it
a bit to look like a red cardinal.

I bought this beautiful golden thread and it is very tiny and looked perfect for tatting, but it shreds up
when pulling a ring or sliding the knots on a chain
so that just leaves knotting tiny seed beads and using this as garland.

    2. It's the lizabeth jungle green and the one with brown in it too. It's of course veragated and I thought I grabbed same shuttle color but did not if that makes any sense the two colors are so close.

  12. Pretty tree and the shuttle is pretty, too. You may be able to use the gold thread for chains - use a smooth cotton thread as the core thread, and just use the gold to make the knots. Often that gives you the option to use threads that don't 'tat' well to tat with. ;-) It will be pretty as a garland, too.

  13. That is a great idea, I will try that and if that works I could make mock rings. Thank you I will give it a try 💟😀💟 I really love the thread and it said it was made with real gold will put in next post to let you know.

  15. I'm very impressed with this tree - so much work! Love the red bird! I'm assuming those are Josephine rings, therefore the name of the tree?

As for the gold thread, the only one I could get to withstand tugging and pulling of rings is the DMC thread on a spool found in the cross-stitch areas of craft stores. It is equivalent to size 30, so it may be too 'thick' for your tree - and you do have to keep the tension a little looser than normal. I've used it a lot in my tatting projects, especially for earrings.

    1. This thread is not Dec thread will have to check that out though, cause I have never tried that before. I will make my next post showing the thread so you can see the spool
